May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and if I’m honest, I’ve had to remind myself of that more than once this week. Not because I don’t care about mental health (it's actually at the heart of everything I do), but because life gets busy, overwhelming, and noisy. And when that happens, our mental health often gets pushed to the bottom of the to-do list.
This post isn’t here to tell you to add another thing to your plate. It’s actually the opposite. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to pause. It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to take care of you.
For me, BU has always been more than a business. It was born from a deep need to care — for others, yes, but also for myself. A way to create something thoughtful, grounding, and intentional in a world that often feels rushed and overwhelming.
If you’re anything like me, someone who gives a lot and often forgets to refill their own cup — I want to remind you:
- You’re allowed to slow down.
- You don’t need permission to rest.
- You don’t have to have it all together all the time.
I'm trying to be intentional in holding space for all the feelings — the good, the heavy and the in-between. I’m also reminding myself (and maybe you need to hear it too) that taking care of my mental health isn’t a luxury. It’s essential.
This month (and every month), I hope you find moments of calm. I hope you make time for yourself, even if it’s just five minutes with your favourite wax melt, book or hot drink. I hope you talk about how you’re feeling, and feel safe enough to say, “I’m not okay” when that’s true.
So whether you’re thriving or just making it through the day, I see you. You’re not alone. You are doing your best — and that is more than enough.
Be Kind To Yourself.
