So, it’s officially 2025, and if I’m honest, I'm not posting this blog entry when I had originally planned. But you know what? That’s okay. I decided I wanted to take the first few days of 2025 to just "be" and rush into the chaos and expectations of a New Year. There can be a lot of societal pressure to have our goals set and our plans mapped out by 1st January, so I decided that this year, I’m doing things differently.
I’ve decided my New Year will start on 3rd March—my birthday. It feels fitting. After all, birthdays mark the start of a new year of life, and with it being in March, it aligns perfectly with spring, when nature starts to come alive again. If we mirror nature and its seasons, spring is when things bud and bloom, so why not use that as a cue for when to kickstart my year?
Instead of diving into resolutions right away, I’m choosing to focus on wellness for the first few months. January tends to be a tough month for many of us anyway—cold weather, dark days and having been paid 1,500 days ago (well it feels like it anyway) and waiting for the next pay day. So, rather than putting pressure on myself to have everything sorted right now, I’m giving myself time to rest, regroup, and focus on habits that support my well-being.
For Beautifully Unique, these first few months will be a time of reflection and resetting. I’ll be taking this time to reassess where we are, and what’s next, with the goal of bringing new products to life in the spring—just in time for that season of rebirth. It feels right to align the launches with the energy of spring, when everything is starting to bloom, including my own New Year. So, watch this space!
We can often be made to feel like we are behind when we see others who seemingly have their goals, plans, vision boards etc all mapped out. However, this is your reminder that it's not a race, and there’s definitely no rule that says we have to have it all figured out by the start of the year. If anything, rushing could potentially lead to burnout before we’ve even had the chance to get going.
So, if you’re feeling that pressure too, know that you're not alone. Take a step back and look at nature—nothing in the natural world is hurried. Trees don’t rush to grow leaves in winter, and flowers don’t bloom before they’re ready. Spring is when everything starts to come to life, and this year, that’s when I’ll be ready to start mine too.
Until then, I’ll be focusing on wellness—building small, intentional habits that nurture my mental and physical health, and giving myself the time I need to feel grounded. And when 3rd March rolls around, I’ll celebrate not just another birthday, but a fresh start, with the energy to nurture new ideas and projects in sync with nature.
Here’s to starting the year when it feels right for you, and giving yourself the kindness, grace and space to do things at your own pace. After all, our lives don’t have to follow the calendar, and there’s something empowering about setting your own timeline.
Be Kind To Yourself
